Club cross country skiing holiday to Akaslompolo, Finland

Once again the Club will be going to the ski resort of Akaslompolo [Yllas] in Finland.  Members book their holiday independently with Inghams and stay at the hotel Akas, its log cabins or apartments, or other accommodation offered by Inghams.

About Akaslompolo

Akaslompolo [also known as Yllas] is situated in the Artic circle 45 minutes from the airport of Kittila. It is a snow-sure resort with an extensive network of cross country skiing tracks for classic and skating over varied terrain. For further details please see http://www.yllas.fi/en

At this time of the year, temperatures vary but are usually below zero, and it’s never too cold to ski.

The area has cafés along the ski trails where you can buy refreshments and also small snow shelters with an open fire where you can barbecue sausages, like the Finns.

Cross country skiing during the holiday

The club trip is suitable for all levels of experience and ability.  We normally ski on the same route but at a different pace.  There is usually a fast group and a slow group, and a middle group when numbers are relatively large.  The trip is well suited for couples who ski at a different level of ability and well as for those who like to do the miles.

Inghams offer free basic cross-country equipment for those staying at Yllas Log Cabins, Villa Armas Cabins and the catered Chalet Polar Star, plus the opportunity to upgrade to semi-pro Atomic x-c equipment for £20 a week for more experienced skiers.
