Cross country skiing trip to Livigno

11-19 December 2011

LRNSC will run its early season cross country skiing holiday to Livigno in northern Italy again.  This has previously proved to be a very successful and popular venue.  Livigno is at an altitude of 1800 metres, and therefore is as close as it comes to being snow-sure.

Improve your cross country skiing

Coaching will be provided by our dynamic duo of Peter Moysey and Soren Milas, following a tried and tested format of coaching in the mornings with free skiing in the afternoons.

Your chance to try cross country ski racing in both classic and skating techniques

The week will give you the opportunity to take part in the “La Sgambeda” races:  21 km Classical Technique on Friday 16 December and 42 km in Free (Skating) Technique on Sunday 18 December.  La Sgambeda races are part of the Euroloppet series.
Participation in one or other of these races is encouraged but is by no means compulsory.

Travel arrangements

You arrange your own return flight to Munich to coincide with direct coach transport between the airport and the hotel.  Although this is a relatively long coach journey (4-5 hours), it avoids the need to transfer skis and baggage from one train or coach to another and has proved to be a very hassle-free journey.
The return journey will be on Monday morning to allow those who participate in Sunday’s race time to recover and for the rest of us to celebrate their success!

Accommodation

This has been booked at the Hotel Lanz, where we have stayed in previous years.  It is close to the ski tracks and to the town centre.

Buy ski equipment duty-free!

For historic reasons, Livigno has duty-free status and the trip provides a good opportunity both to upgrade your ski equipment and to make many other cheap purchases.
Ski hire is available for those who do not own their own equipment.

Cost

Full costs, which will be kept as low as possible, will be available shortly and are partly dependant on the number of people taking up this offer and sharing the cost of common services (bus transfer and coaching).  A further bulletin will be sent out as soon as we are in a position to finalise this aspect.  Three years ago the cost was around £550 per head for 8 days and this year should not be substantially different.

What to do next [as at 28/07/11]

Twenty members have already expressed their interest in taking part in what is always a splendid week and a wonderful opportunity to brush up your technique before the season gets fully under way.
Numbers may eventually be limited by accommodation and coach capacity, so book your interest now by contacting the trip coordinator Paddy Field using this form or by calling 01252 626339.
If numbers exceed capacity, it will be a question of ’first come, first served’, so do not delay.
We promise that you will not be disappointed!
