13-20 March 2016 - Club ski trip to Akaslompolo, Finland
Once again the club will be going to the ski resort of Akaslompolo in Finland. Members book independently with Inghams and stay at the hotel Akas, its log cabins or apartments, on a half board or self- catering basis, or alternatively opt for nearby self catering log cabins run by Destination Lapland, also through Inghams.
Akaslompolo (also known as Yllas) is situated in the Arctic circle 45 minutes from the airport of Kittila. It is a snow sure place with an extensive network of tracks for classic and skating.
At this time of the year, temperatures vary but are usually below zero, never too cold to ski.
The area has cafés at convenient ski intervals from which refreshments can be purchased, and small snow shelters with an open fire where you can cook sausages, a pastime well liked by the Finns.
Inghams offer competitive prices with discounts for club members. Look for Yllas in the brochure.
The club trip is suitable for all levels of experience and ability. We normally ski on the same route but at a different pace. There is usually a fast group and a slow group, and a middle group when numbers are relatively large. The trip is well suited for couples who ski at a different level of ability as well as for those who like to do the miles.
Equipment hire available?
Equipment is available through Inghams or at the local sport shop for a greater choice and higher quality.
The tracks offer excellent ski conditions with varied terrain.
What to do next?
To join the party, book direct with Inghams who fly from Manchester airport. If this is not convenient you can make arrangements direct with the Akas hotel and book a flight to Kittila airport with Finnair or another airline if you can find a better offer. Website www.laplandhotels.com. The full name of the hotel is Akashotelli tel +358 16 553 322+358 16 553 322 . There is a regular bus service connecting Finnair and other flights to the resort of Akaslompolo where the hotel and tracks are situated.
