16th to 18th August 2019

About this event

This is an opportunity for LRNSC Worldloppet passport holders to enter a race on a different continent, which is one of the criteria of becoming a Worldloppet Master, and for other skiers who are looking for a bit of winter adventure during the English summer.

There are 50K and 25K classic races, and in 2018 there were around 300 competitors from 15 countries, including Brazil’s Paralympic ski team.

More information can be found at and

Club member Tom Sutherland will be going to compete in this race in Argentina in 2019 and 2020 and he is happy to help anyone who would like to go.

How to get there, accommodation, etc

Norwegian airlines have a nonstop flight from Gatwick to Buenos Aires EZE, and BA also has a daily flight from Heathrow to EZE.

From Buenos Aires it is another 3 hours to Ushuaia, and most flights leave from the airport in the city, AEP. There are also some connections from the international airport, EZE.

Ushuaia airport is 6 kilometres away from the centre of town, and you can transfer by bus, a taxi or rent a car. Tierra Mayor, where the Loppet takes place, is about 20km from the town.

There is also a superb downhill skiing centre near Tierra Mayor if you want to combine downhill and cross country skiing, find out more.

A recommended hotel that Tom uses in Ushuaia is the Hosteria Valle Frio, but there are many other options.

Ski rentals are available, but the selection is limited and equipment not to the standard you find in Europe.

If you are interested please email Tom directly and also use the Club’s Facebook page for any individual discussions on arrangements.
