Roller ski trip to France

Join us for a roller skiing tour on the Voie Verte between Pont Authou and Evreux in the department of Eure, in rural Normandy.  We’ll ski on  Saturday and Sunday, about 20km one day and 22km the next.

Voie Verte is an official classification denominating a recreational standard for motor traffic free ways through the countryside.  Our chosen roller skiing route follows an old railway line through the countryside.  It is virtually flat except near to Evreux where it descends gently.  The surface is good quality, smooth-grained tarmac.

This bank holiday tour is ideal opportunity for couples/friends where one likes to roller ski and the other prefers to cycle. Each day skiers and cyclists move at their own pace and frequently regroup, making the tour a very social occasion.

How to get there

Voie Verte Evreux Pont-Authou is easily accessible from the port of Le Havre, by train from Paris and by bus from Honfleur or Evreux and by motorway. It is 42 km long.  We will stay in the town of Le Neubourg half way between Pont-Authou and Evreux.  On both days we will use public transport to get to the start or return to base.  If you want to roller ski further you can double the distance.

Accommodation and meals

There are two small hotels in the centre of the town a short distance from the Voie Verte with a total capacity of 16 rooms.  They are situated by the Grande Place within 5 minutes of each other We may need to use both depending on numbers. 

No deposit is required and bookings will be made on a first come first serve basis.  In case of oversubscription, there is a larger hotel some distance away, but within Le Neubourg.

Refreshments are available at the beginning and end of the route, with limited facilities en route.
You can expect to pay in the region of 65 euros per room per night, and 25 euros per person for the evening meal.    Booking is for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights on a bed and breakfast basis.  Evening meals are expected to be at the hotel on a prix fixe basis.  Payment will be on an individual basis per room for accommodation, meals and drinks and payable to the hotel.

NB The wearing of helmets is compulsory for roller skiers.
