Club cross country ski trip to Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria - with tuition + Tour de Ramsau Euroloppet races

This trip is open to all LRNSC members, and those wishing to join the club to take part.

It is suitable for improver and intermediate skiers with a reasonable level of fitness. Tuition will be from Dagmar Junghanns and Peter Moysey and will consist of at least 5 half day sessions on skate/classic. The focus will be on honing skills to ski more efficiently, gain confidence and technique to compete in a first race, or for experienced skiers to compete in the longer races. Tuition will start on Monday 6th January.  Places are limited.

It is not suitable for beginner skiers. 

About Ramsau am Dachstein

It has 220 km of cross-country skiing trails between 1,100 m and 2,700 m above sea level with varying degrees of difficulty for all levels of skier. There is a cross-country skiing stadium with a night trail, testing centre and children's cross-country skiing park. The village is spread over the length of the main valley and has good ski trail access to the main ski stadium area. A free ski bus also runs along the valley many times a day.  See the tourist office for more information.

Euroloppet Race – The Tour de Ramsau

The Tour de Ramsau is the only event of this kind in Europe, and it consists of three days of racing – but you can choose a single race or any combination of the three.

  • 1k sprint night races at 7pm on Friday 10th January;
  • 30 or 10k classic races at 10 am Saturday 11 January;
  • 42 or 12k free technique races at 10 am Sunday 12 January.

If you want to race it is your responsibility to enter - online registration is now open.

Flights

The suggested flights are Gatwick to Salzburg – (current prices at 22/4/19).
BA Gatwick 07.15 5th January arrives 10.10 Salzburg £75 (1 bag)
Or  BA Gatwick 13.15 5th January arrives 16.10 Salzburg £75 (1 bag)
BA Salzburg Monday 13th – 11.05 arrive 12.10 Gatwick £54 (1 bag)
Easyjet flights are also available.

Transfers

Participants should make their own arrangements to use the bus, train or airport shuttle. More details will be available nearer departure. Salzburg to Ramsau is approx. 90K (1.5 hours).

Accommodation

Hotel Ferienhotel Knollhof -  the Knollhof is directly on the cross country ski tracks with easy access along tracks to the stadium where the races start. On this interactive map its location is just under the Bergkristall lift. The main town is a 15 minute walk away.

The half board accommodation on offer is:

a]  7 double rooms (3 of these can be triple rooms)
b]  2 single rooms
c]  4 doubles for single occupancy

The buffet breakfast runs from 7.30 to 10am and the evening meal from 6 to 8pm offering soups, buffet salad, specials and dessert.

There is a wellness centre with sauna, hot-steam-bath, infrared cabin, massage (fee) und sun bed (fee). A swimming pool is available locally. There is also a ski store and place to wax skis.

Cost

Tuition cost: expected to be £175 per person for all participants on the trip.

Hotel cost:
€82 per person per night for half board (+ €15 per person per night for single supplement)
3rd bed in a triple room is -30%.  Local tax is €2.50 pppd
There will be a 10% discount applied for the group at checkout if sufficient numbers book.
You will be responsible for paying the balance of your hotel bill on checkout.

Hotel’s cancellation policy

  1. 60 days prior to arrival, no cancellation charge will apply (5/11/19)
  2. 30 days prior to arrival, a cancellation fee equivalent to 30% will apply (4/12/19)
  3. Later than 29 days prior to arrival, a cancellation fee equivalent to 50%
  4. Later than 10 days prior to arrival, 80% of the stipulated package price
  5. Non-arrival without cancellation, 90% of the stipulated package price

Other expenses to budget for:

  • €40 for a 7 days loipe pass
  • Money for local buses
  • Lunch €10-€15
  • Race entry

What to do next

Complete the online booking form and you will receive confirmation of your place and how to pay the £200 deposit to secure your hotel room, then you can:
1.    Book your flights.
2.    Book your race places (when registration opens).
3.    The tuition fee is payable by 31st November 2019 and an email will confirm the amount nearer the time.
