Club cross country ski trip to Beitostølen, Norway

Sunday 9th to Sunday 16th February 2020

About Beitostølen

Beitostølen lies on the edge of the beautiful Jotunheimen National Park and offers 320 km of groomed cross country trails in the forest and mountains.  It is a compact resort which is easy to get around, and is situated around the base of a downhill ski area, with all the resort facilities within easy walking distance.  For a small village, there is a surprising number of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from, plus several supermarkets and bakery, all housed in attractive wooden cabins.

About the trip

This trip is open to all LRNSC members, and those wishing to join the club to take part.

It is based on a Crystal Ski holiday and is self-lead by the club members who are going.

Routes will be planned each evening for the following day, usually over a post dinner drink to allow individuals to decide which options to choose, and arrangements of where to meet the following day. Planning depends on the weather forecast, stamina and ability, and usually offers two different group options for varying requirements.

It is a good way to understand the terrain, route planning, weather and waxing for members who want to learn to be more independent in their future ski trips. There is also an excellent ski stadium nearby which is very useful for technique practice if you prefer a break from the day’s touring options.

If you would like to join this trip, you must be a competent skier, with a reasonable level of fitness and the ability to make a controlled descent downhill. It isn’t suitable for complete beginner skiers as the trails are quite demanding.

Flights & transfer

The current flight that are shown on the Crystal website are Gatwick to Oslo:
9/2/2020 Gatwick departing 09.20 arrives 12.25 Oslo
16/2/2020 Oslo departing 13.00 arrives 14.20 Gatwick

The transfer is included in the price of your booking.

Hotel - Radisson Blu

After a successful trip in 2019, the choice of hotel for 2020 is the Radisson Blu. It is in a central location across the road from the base of the ski lifts and ski hire shop.

The on-site restaurant serves an acclaimed ‘super breakfast buffet’ each morning and a range of Scandinavian and international dishes for dinner. Customers can also dine at an à la carte restaurant next door to the hotel.

It also has a wellness centre, featuring a gym with cardio equipment and squash court, alongside a 25-meter pool and a spa, with sauna and solarium.

Across the 128 spacious and stylish rooms there’s satellite television and lovely views of the Jotunheimen Mountains on a clear day.

Costs

The current price for half board at the Radisson is £790 per person.

If you find you can’t book into the Radisson, the nearby Bergo apartments and rooms offer half board and self catering packages. And there are also other options through Crystal Ski to hotels in the resort if these options get full up.
