Support your national nordic squads
Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 17:35 The young skiers in our national squads achieved tremendous results last season. Britain’s first World Cup qualifiers for 14 years:
- podium placings in the Swiss national Junior Championships
- an outstanding 9th place in the World Junior Championships
- good performances at the European Youth Olympics and the University Games in China
-
a team of six competed in the Nordic World Ski Championships in the Czech Republic, where Andrew Musgrave took 45th place, the best by a Briton for many years, in the 30 km Pursuit event.
Are you aware that all their achievements have mostly been funded by the skiers themselves or by their parents?
To compete at an international level, in any age group, requires large financial resources. Your Club Committee has answered an appeal by undertaking to provide a financial contribution towards these costs next season, when we hope to see members of British clubs outside the military representing Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Invest in GB's ski-ing future
Club members are invited to invest in Great Britain’s cross-country ski-ing future by sending a cheque, made out to "LRNSC" to the Club Treasurer Hilary Field [address in the Club magazine or contact us]. You can also contribute at the Club’s 4 hour roller ski event 4 October.
Every contributor’s name will be entered in a draw, which will take place immediately after the 4-hour event, for a number of prizes which have been, or will be, donated. One ticket will be entered in the draw for every £2 donated. At the present moment the prize list (all brand new and unused) includes:
- 1 pr Salomon ‘Snowscape’ waxless skis 183 cm with SNS Profile automatic bindings
- 1 pr LEKI aluminium poles 140 cm
- 1 pr Salomon ‘Escape’ Classic boots, size 42
It is hoped that this prize list will be increased between now and 4 October The Club will contribute £1 for each £1 donated by members, up to a limit of £200, so send your cheques in now and let’s show LRNSC’s support for our national teams!.
