Hampshire Roller Skiing

Every Saturday at 2 pm a group of Club skiers meet informally at a traffic-free road with an excellent tarmac surface, gently undulating and with a length of 2 km for the round trip.  There is adequate car parking.  It’s within half a mile of the Eelmoor Driving Circuit.
Postcode: GU11 2HH off the A323 Aldershot-Fleet road.

What happens

Both techniques (classic and skate) are catered for, and a limited supply of Club equipment is available for hire given prior warning.   All levels of skier are welcome.  Although we do not run specific coaching sessions usually experienced skiers are on hand to give advice.

The history

Since around 1988 the Club has run a roller skiing group on Saturday afternoons in the Fleet/Aldershot area, about 35 miles SW of Central London.  Originally, the group met and trained on the Army’s Driver Training Circuit at Eelmoor, on the A323 Fleet to Aldershot road but access problems, firstly as a result of the Foot & Mouth crisis and, more recently, the fencing in of the area, denying the general public their legal rights of access and use, have also denied us the use of the circuit.  We had to look elsewhere in the neighbourhood for a suitable roller skiing course.  Our numbers have dropped and we are looking to build them up again towards the 10-20 who previously attended regularly.

What next

Any roller skier wanting to join us will be made very welcome (we normally finish the sessions with a carbo-loading tea and cakes get together).  For further information please contact Hilary or Paddy Field on 01252 643055 or email Paddy
