The Club has learnt of the sad death of Phil Jackson, long time Club member and one of the stalwarts of LRNSC during the 1980s and 90s.  A former cyclist and canoeist, Phil was for a long time the Club Equipment member and used all of his ingenuity and technical skills to keep the Club equipment, particularly the roller ski equipment, in good condition and available to members for their use.

Phil’s contribution to the Club did not end there.  He and Margaret organised the first LRNSC holidays abroad, to St Johann in Tirol and to the French Jura, as well as providing coffee and sustenance at the monthly meetings in Millman Street, organizing roller skiing at the old Wisley airfield and giving their time as officials at the Club roller ski events at Eastway.

In the past few years, deteriorating health and a recent battle with cancer forced Phil to reduce his commitments to the Club, but he was a very welcome visitor to the Club’s 25th Anniversary Dinner in 2006.

We will remember a great enthusiast for our sport and other sports; a true gentleman who would always give his time for others; and a real mainstay of LRNSC during its formative years.

We offer Margaret and the family our most sincere condolences at this sad time.

Phil’s funeral took place at Randalls Park Crematorium, Leatherhead on Wednesday 18 April.
